Treat Diseases of Gums and Bones

Periodontal (gum) diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are serious infections that can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. The main cause of periodontal disease is bacterial plaque that forms around teeth. Other factors such as smoking, genetics, hormonal changes, stress, medications, and diabetes can significantly influence the progression and severity of periodontal disease.

Typical treatments for gum disease involve initial deep cleanings with local anesthesia, which removes the bacterial plaque and calculus (tartar). Surgery may be required after the deep cleanings depending on the severity of the disease. Following therapy, 3 or 4 month recall cleanings are typically recommended with alternating visits between the patient’s general dentist and our office.
